Richmond’s Samantha Siu hasn’t let a wheelchair slow her down.
The mother of four is a volunteer and ambassador with the Rick Hansen Man in Motion Foundation.
Siu helps raise awareness about spinal cord injury and offers hope to others who have suffered such injuries.
In the winter of 1989, Siu was a 35-year-old mother (her youngest five at the time), when her car skidded on black ice and careened over an embankment. When she awoke, she was paralyzed.
Her world was turned upside down.
Siu knows how important spinal cord research is so she is encouraging everyone in Richmond to come together to raise money to improve the lives of people living with such injuries.
Last year was the inaugural Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event and Richmondites walked, ran and biked to raise money that supported a wheelchair curling and sledge hockey program for people with spinal cord injuries in Richmond.
The second annual Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion fundraiser happens Sunday, June 13 across Canada and right here in our own backyard.
Volunteers are needed now to help organize or join an event committee, form team challenges and mark their calendars to participate in the fun event.
Half the net proceeds from the walk/run/bike will benefit local programs and the other half towards research, ultimately leading to a cure.
