On October 23 and 24, 2004 the Central Coast Motorcycle Association (CCMA) is hosting a special and unique fundraiser motorcycle and ATV race at the Oceano Dunes SVRA, (aka Pismo Dunes) located on the Central Coast of California. Inspired by the infamous Le-Trouquet Beach Race in France, the race will start within a rooster tail of the surf, and run a 6+ mile course winding through the dunes. It is the first race of its kind in the Oceano Dunes. It is a knobbies only race (no paddles) designed for all types of dirt racers; with the primary goal being a fun race for good causes.

ATVs will take the course on Saturday with the ATVs racing Sunday. Classes include a two hour pro race, 45 minute kids race, and a celebrity race running 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Pro and celebrity riders slated to attend include Nathan Woods, Ty Davis, Mike Brown and Rick Johnson. Racing kicks off Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and the weekend will conclude with the Team/Ironman Moto from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

The race is a fundraiser for two important charities; one the Clayton Memorial Foundation which assists injured motorcycle racers, and the other SCI Research Advancement, which is dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injury caused paralysis.

Saturday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. there will be a special BBQ/reception designed to generate funds and to create awareness of efforts to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Speaking at the fundraiser will be Dr. Jean Peduzzi, a researcher with the University of Alabama. She is one of the top researchers in the Country currently working to develop a cure for spinal cord injuries and she is the head researcher on a project underwritten by SCI Research Advancement. She will provide solid no-nonsense up-to-date information on the status of the research being done world wide. The reception will also be attended by key individuals involved in the sport of motorcycling.

This event is more than a remarkable race; it will create awareness, it will educate and it will raise needed funds. The message that the CCMA wants to get across through this event is that the sport of motorcycling has the opportunity to take a leadership role in addressing spinal cord injuries; and now is the time to do it.
