(Media-Newswire.com) – The Queensland Government will provide more than $1.3 million to help people who have acquired spinal cord injuries to return from rehabilitation to community life.

Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said the funding would be provided to the Spinal Injuries Association to help people with an acquired spinal cord injury, to move from acute care and return to their home.

“This money will be largely used to provide vital support to people who are returning to the community following rehabilitation and discharge from Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital,” Mr Pitt said.

“Returning to home can be a difficult and sometimes challenging experience for people with a spinal cord injury. This financial support will help them to sustain living arrangements within their communities, and prevent unnecessary readmissions to hospital.”

Mr Pitt said the funding, provided by Disability Services Queensland, would be provided to the Spinal Injuries Association.

“More than $1.3 million will be granted recurrently to the association to provide support to about 18 individuals as part of the Spinal Cord Injuries initiative. The funding also includes a one-off payment of $5000,” he said.

Mr Pitt said he was pleased to support the Spinal Injuries Association, which was recognised as the specialist peak agency in Queensland for people with a spinal cord injury.

“I am confident that with its high level of expertise and networking, the organisation will continue to deliver a range of vital services and support to people with a spinal injury,” he said.
