Canada’s Man In Motion, Rick Hansen, is calling on people from Trent Hills and surrounding area to join in the fun at the first annual Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion (RWHIM), presented by Scotiabank, to be held at Old Mill Park in Campbellford Sunday, June 13, 2004. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and warm-up stretches will commence at 1:45 by Physiotherapist Doreen Sharpe. Val Wynn, a spinal cord injury ambassador will be sharing some inspirational thoughts and the event starts at 2 pm. Mayor Hector McMillan will be on hand to open the event and guest Cassie Turner will join us.

People of all ages across Canada will wheel, bike, skate, run and walk in their communities to create a brighter future for over 40,000 people with spinal cord injury (SCI), and the over 1,000 newly injured every year.

“Bring your friends, family and co-workers,” said Rick Hansen, CEO and President of the Rick Hansen Man In Motion Foundation. “When you come and participate in an event such as this, you are not only rolling for people with a spinal cord injury today, you roll for all that is possible for people tomorrow. We are all capable of extraordinary things, of reaching out and supporting one another. An injury can happen to anyone, at anytime, and one day, with new treatments and cures, it will be possible to walk away. Meanwhile, we want to make a difference by removing barriers and supporting programs that will help improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury.”

Half the net proceeds from the event will be directed to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities in Trent Hills. The other half is directed to research, ultimately leading to a cure for spinal cord injury
