Woman Struck, Dragged by Truck

WILLOW OAK — A Mulberry wo-man was seriously injured Monday night when she was struck and dragged by a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

Kimberly Richmond of Jamie Street had gotten out of her boyfriend’s truck after an argument and was on the shoulder of Bailey Road and Levin Street about 5:30 p.m. when she was struck, a sheriff’s report said.

Richmond, who was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, suffered a spinal cord injury and possible fractures, the report said. A hospital official could not release Richmond’s condition Tuesday afternoon, but the Sheriff’s Office said she remained unconscious.

Her boyfriend, Dennis Williams, 37, was arrested on a felony count of battery with a deadly weapon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Williams and Richmond argued inside the truck and Richmond got out of the vehicle and walked onto the shoulder.

“Williams did intentionally and with malice” drive onto the shoulder toward Richmond, striking her and dragging her, the report said.

According to the report, Williams drove to a relative’s home in Brandon where he told his brother that “he had ran over Kim and that she was dead.”

Deputies eventually were able to reach Williams on his cell phone and asked him to explain what happened.

“Dennis Williams then told him (the deputy) that `I know I killed her, you just want to get me back,’ ” the report said.

Williams then returned to Polk County and was arrested. He remained in the Polk County Jail with no bail Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
